Learning the language used around wine is a pretty intimidating exercise.  There are so many languages, scientific terms, seemingly abstract notions and acronyms that it’s easy to be put off and try to avoid the subject.  I love reading wine glossaries though – especially on the internet when you can click through the links and enter into a vortex of definitions!  Most of them won’t stick, but the more you browse the more you learn and gradually you find that you can start using the words with confidence.
